Nontraditional Portrait

1. Who did you choose to do a portrait of? Why did you choose that person?
For my portrait project I choose to do my brother.  I choose him because he has always asked for me to do a project involving him and I thought this would have been the perfect project.

2. When brainstorming about this project how did you decide what would be the best materials to use to create it? Explain how your material choice impacted the look of your piece. Why was this so important. Explain.
I knew I wanted to make him seen by the highligts in his face when I took my picture.  The hard part was how to make that idea into a project.  Since it was halloween I realized the perfect way of doing that was through carving a pumpkin.  I got some carving tools and started to carve out the highlightes in his face.

3. Describe the risks you took or that were involved in creating the project. What were the challenges you faced?
The risk I took was that I have never carved like this in a pumpkin, and if I messed up I can't undo it.  The challenges I faced during the project was tring to be careful and not let my hand slip and carve into areas that were not suppossed to be carved into.

4. How did your choices impact the look and feel of the piece? Did your choice of materials have any connection with the person you chose to represent?
My choices impacted the piece by looking fairly clean (clean enough to tell I had no huge mistakes) and that it came out the way it was invisioned.  My choice of material (the pumpkin) did not have a huge connection to my person other than it was close to halloween and when we were younger he would go with me trick-or-treating.

Sticky Situation

1. Explain how you developed your ideas for "Sticky Situation" 
I got my ideas for the sticky situation by thinking what type of situations in which the person is stuck in a situation in nature and is unable to get out.

2. Were you able to think outside the box when you were thinking about ideas? 
Yes, I was able to think outside the box because I first thought lost in the forest to stuck in mud and then when I put those two ideas together I got quick sand.

3. You were to incorporate repetition, rhytnm or pattern. How did you accomplish this? 
I incorporated repetition with the ghosts on the trees and the remaining body parts of the human.

4. Describe your choice of media (acrylic, watercolor) and your challenges and successes while using it. 
I choose water colors, I got a challange out of this by this being my first time every doing a project with water colors, for I usually paint with acrylics.

5. How important were the mini lessons to the success of your final product?
The mini lessons help me think about how I will incorporate certain ideas and make it look more realistic.

Up Close and Personal

1. Up close and Personal was our theme. How did you develop your ideas for this project and why did you choose your subject?

• I developed my ideas for this theme by remembering commercials I have seen over the past years.  I also was kinda hungry when I was thinking of my ideas so the thought came to me, that I should do the project with a food theme.  As I tried to think of ideas I looked up and saw that melting ice cream up close was really neat looking so I choose that for my theme. 

2. How did you demonstrate Emphasis in your work?

• I demonstrated emphasis in my work by making to fudge/chocolate syrup having highlighted areas all over it and doing that same technique to all of the other topping on this.

3. What medium did you decide to use and why did you choose this medium over the others? Discuss how it enhances your piece.

• I choose to do a chalk medium, the reason I choose this type of medium is because I like what options you can do when you use chalk and blend in the colors.

We encourage risk taking in art. Risk taking can be as simple as trying a new technique or learning about a new medium to as complex as trying something totally new.

4.. Did you take any risks with this project? Explain.

• The risks I took in this project is putting it on green paper, I wanted to do green paper for I wanted to prove to myself that I can make the ice cream stand out even with a color of paper that makes that difficult.

5. Of the 5 characteristics of great art (technique, concept, emotion, new, medium) which did you include in your art?

• The characteristic of art that I included in my art was medium.

What's the point?

 

 1. What where some of your solutions to What’s the Point?
Some of my solutions to What's the Point, were I wanted to show case the generations of an object.  I had the ideas of game systems becoming new, head gear of the army, and cell phones becoming more advanced
2. Which solution did you chose and why?
 My solution I choose was the generations of game systems but I thought that the generations of the head gear for the army was much more efficient.  By this I mean the head gear has only become much more protective and helpful towards the soldiers in battle. 3. How did you show contrast in your work?
 I showed contrast in my work by using stippling to show case that lights were above each helmet making it look like it was in an exhibit. 4. What medium did you decide to use? Why did you choose this medium over the others?
 I choose the medium of pen, I choose this because I like how it can create a light source and dramaticize objects with having white space in between the shadow work. 5. What techniques did you use to create this work?
 The techniques I used to create this work was stippling, crosshatching and lines. We encourage risk taking in art. Risk taking can be as simple as trying a new technique or learning about a new medium to as complex as trying something totally new.
  6. Did you take any risks with this project?
I did take a risk in this project for I have a shaky hand so I could have messed up with my pen and had to have kept on redoing it.
7. What message are you conveying? How are you convey this message through the use of your images or use of art elements or principles?
The message I was trying to convey was that, thanks to technology our troops are now safer than before and that it can come to help them in battle to see things they may not.  I am conveing this message through showing how a simple cloth helment and a simple gas mask can not protect you as well as much harder material blocking bullets and altering you when gas levels are dangerously high!
